Our Initiatives

Four connected initiatives, one goal: children who learn and thrive

Our work is organised into four initiatives that reinforce one another. Together they help a child start school ready to learn, stay enrolled, reach a scholarship or a skill, and grow up in a healthier, stronger community.

How our initiatives work

From a local need to a measurable result

We do not start with a programme and look for somewhere to run it. Each initiative follows the same four steps, so effort goes where it is needed and results can be checked.

  1. Start with the need

We listen to students, parents, teachers and gram panchayats before designing anything.

  2. Design it together

Programmes are built with schools and local bodies so they fit the timetable and context.

  3. Measure honestly

We track attendance, learning, placements and health indicators every cycle and publish what we find.

  4. Hand it over

We build local volunteer and teacher capacity so the work continues without us.

Focus area 01

Education & academic support

Many rural students fall behind not because they cannot learn, but because they miss foundational concepts and have no support at home. This initiative closes that gap with regular, structured help and mentoring alongside the regular school day.

Keeping children in school and learning at grade level

What we run

  • After-school and weekend learning support in language, mathematics and science
  • Scholarship guidance for NMMS, Navodaya and other competitive examinations
  • Study material, stationery and reference books for students who need them
  • Mentoring and regular parent-teacher conversations to prevent drop-out

Who it is for

Students in classes 5–10 in government and aided schools around Pauni, with priority for first-generation learners, girls and children from low-income families.

What we track

  • School attendance and retention of enrolled students
  • Improvement in grade-level reading and numeracy
  • Scholarship applications submitted and awards received

Focus area 02

Health & nutrition awareness

A sick child cannot learn, and a hungry child cannot concentrate. Working with local health workers and schools, this initiative focuses on prevention, early referral and nutrition awareness rather than treatment.

Fewer missed school days, healthier families

What we run

  • Health and hygiene awareness sessions in schools and villages
  • Periodic health check-up and screening camps with referral support
  • Nutrition awareness for parents, with guidance on low-cost balanced meals
  • Menstrual health education and support for adolescent girls

Who it is for

School students and their families in the villages where our education programmes run, coordinated with ASHA workers, anganwadis and primary health centres.

What we track

  • Students screened and referrals completed
  • Awareness sessions held and families reached
  • Reported reduction in illness-related school absence

Focus area 03

Skilling & livelihoods

For young people who are not continuing to higher education, a practical, market-relevant skill is the fastest route to a stable income. This initiative offers short, hands-on courses and links learners to work.

Turning school-leavers into earners

What we run

  • Digital literacy and basic computer courses for rural youth
  • Employability training — communication, resumes, interviews and workplace basics
  • Introductory vocational modules based on local demand
  • Guidance on apprenticeships, government skilling schemes and self-employment

Who it is for

Youth aged 16–25 in and around Pauni, especially those who have finished or left school and are looking for their first job or income.

What we track

  • Learners who complete a course
  • Learners placed in a job, apprenticeship or self-employment
  • Retention in that work after six months

Focus area 04

Community development

Children do better when the community around them is healthier and more connected. This initiative brings people together around the environment, women and child development, and recognising local talent.

A stronger environment for every child to grow up in

What we run

  • Tree-plantation drives and environment awareness with schools and youth groups
  • Women and child development activities, including self-help group support
  • Student competitions and talent events in sport, art and science
  • Community clean-up, awareness campaigns and civic participation drives

Who it is for

Whole villages in our working area — students, women's groups, youth clubs and gram panchayats who lead and sustain the activities.

What we track

  • Saplings planted and share surviving after one year
  • Women and young people participating in activities
  • Events held and volunteers mobilised
